Transsion pioneers full skin color imaging technology from Africa to emerging markets

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

Recently, Median's brand TECNO and Türkiye's research-oriented comprehensive university Kochi University have reached a strategic cooperation. The two sides will focus on the unique skin color and aesthetic preferences of Türkiye's consumers in smartphone photography for in-depth research. This is another important layout of Transsion in the field of "full skin color imaging technology", following its cooperation with global universities such as the University of Leeds in the UK and the Al Aqma Women's College in Saudi Arabia.
This cooperation will not only promote the iterative upgrade of its iconic technology Universal Tone, but also mark the extension of Transsion's localization innovation strategy from Africa to emerging markets, reshaping the global mobile imaging skin color imaging industry standard with technology inclusiveness.
Demand driven innovation, Transsion's forward-looking layout of full skin color imaging technology
In today's globalized technological wave, mobile imaging technology is flourishing at an unprecedented speed. However, for a long time, this field has been mainly dominated by developed regions such as Europe, America, and Asia, and the needs of emerging market consumers have often not been fully met. Especially in complex lighting environments, the restoration effect of facial skin color in different regions is not satisfactory. This not only affects users' photography experience, but also limits their ability to showcase their diverse beauty in the digital age.
As a technology enterprise deeply rooted in emerging markets, Transsion always puts user needs first. Through in-depth exploration of the skin color characteristics of users in different regions and localized subjective experiments on skin color, Transsion has accumulated and built a database of different skin color groups and a quantitative evaluation system for skin color over the long term.
For example, at the beginning of entering the African market, Transsion deeply customized camera devices for dark skinned consumers based on the localization needs of Africa, combining local aesthetic fashion trends with consumer image debugging standards to form a unique localized photography and video technology. With the years of accumulation of deep skin image technology, Transsion has a profound insight and understanding of the African market and user groups. It recognizes and learns from massive 3D image data of African users, and ultimately establishes the industry's first billion level deep skin image database. It has independently developed core technologies such as deep skin face detection and recognition, deep skin portrait segmentation, etc., to create exclusive portrait experiences for African users, truly implementing the concept of "technology for all" through localized innovation.
Transsion's localization practice in Africa has provided a model for its global full skin imaging technology. In 2023, Transsion teamed up with the University of Leeds in the UK to promote global skin color and color research. They officially launched TECNO Universal Tone, a transformative all skin imaging technology, and created the industry's authoritative all skin image color card and all skin spectral database. They established new standards for all skin portrait technology and all skin color science, becoming the pioneers of all skin imaging technology.
Culture influences aesthetics, and localized innovation in music transmission puts consumers first
Türkiye straddles the Eurasian continent. Its multicultural background and complex skin color characteristics pose a unique challenge to mobile phone imaging technology. This cooperation between TECNO and KUAR Research Center of Kochi University will systematically analyze Türkiye consumers' portrait photography habits, aesthetic preferences and image pain points through questionnaires, field surveys and structured interviews.
It is reported that the research results of this collaboration will deeply empower TECNO's universal tone imaging technology, such as the regional differentiation parameter scene customization system, which can intelligently adapt to diverse lighting conditions, terrain features, and color temperature environments, and output image works that meet local aesthetics; The portrait enhancement and beautification technology platform uses a self-developed algorithm matrix to achieve personalized presentation from skin color level to light and shadow texture, accurately responding to regional cultural preferences.
As expected by Professor Co š kun of Kochi University, this cooperation "is expected to reconstruct the evolution path of smartphone photography from a new perspective - to make technology truly serve people's diverse needs." In other words, this cooperation is not only technology adaptation, but also respect for Türkiye's cultural identity. Through academic research and technological innovation, both parties will return the discourse power of "how to define beauty" to local users.
This is also the original intention of Transsion's insistence on localized innovation, which always puts consumer needs first, respects cultural diversity, and meets the high requirements of different skin color consumers for image quality. This also confirms the strategic logic of Transsion that "localized innovation needs to be deeply bound to cultural identity".
An earlier example is also reflected in Transsion's entertainment targeting African consumers, which has developed bass and speaker designs suitable for African music, as well as radio function designs suitable for Africans; In the era of mobile Internet, Median has developed mobile Internet applications that meet the preferences of African users in music, content aggregation and other fields. According to statistics, as of now, Transsion has multiple independently and collaboratively developed applications with over 10 million monthly active users, including the African music streaming platform Boomplay, news aggregation application Scooper, and comprehensive content distribution application Phoenix.
True globalization is about making technology a bridge for cultural dialogue. From the dark color optimization in Africa to the cultural gene in Türkiye, the cooperation between voice transmission and university institutions is not only a technical breakthrough in the single market, but also a strategic upgrading of Chinese science and technology enterprises from "going to the sea" to "going to the countryside". In the new era where AI and humanities are intertwined, Transsion is writing a new chapter of integrated development of localized operations and technological innovation with "global thinking and localized innovation" as its core.
