According to the latest report released by market institution Canalys, 2024 marks a significant shift from traditional PCs to AI PCs, with an estimated global shipment of 48 million AI PCs this year, accounting for 18% of total PC shipments. Canalys predicts that global AI PC shipments will exceed 100 million units by 2025, accounting for 40% of the total PC shipments; By 2028, global AI PC shipments will reach 205 million units, with a compound annual growth rate of 44% from 2024 to 2028.

AI PCs have significant advantages over traditional PCs

AI PC refers to a personal computer with artificial intelligence capabilities. Compared to traditional PCs, AI PCs have multiple advantages. For example, firstly, AI PCs have significant improvements in hardware configuration, typically equipped with higher performance CPUs and GPUs, as well as specialized neural processing units (NPUs) or similar AI accelerators, which provide powerful computing power to support the operation of AI models. Terminal and chip manufacturers actively lay out AI PCs

Currently, global technology giants are actively expanding into the AI PC field. At CES 2024, AI PC stood at position C, and global technology giants showcased their cutting-edge technology products.
Among them, Lenovo Group has brought over 10 AI PCs, including the Yoga Pro 9i that empowers the creative process, the world's first ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid that can seamlessly switch between laptop and tablet modes, the world's first business AI PC ThinkPad X1 Carbon AI, and the new generation of ultra small ThinkCentre neo Ultra. These AI PCs not only possess powerful performance and efficient computing power, but also achieve personalized services and real-time reliable service responses in general scenarios by combining large models, while ensuring data and privacy security, becoming the most user-friendly personal AI assistants.
Liu Jun, Executive Vice President of Lenovo Group and President of China, stated that in the first half of this year, Lenovo will gradually release AI PCs and personal agents equipped with personal big models, and promote the development of AI PCs into a new stage of multimodal natural language interaction. Lenovo Group predicts that by the end of this year, the market share of high-end products such as AI PCs will reach around 10%.
At the same time, the new AI PC of Acer Swift series will also be officially launched in the Chinese market next month. HP, Dell, Asus, MSI, and others will also launch AI PC products.
In addition, on the evening of March 18th, Honor also released its first AI PC MagicBook Pro16, which is equipped with the highest Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor and supports the highest NVIDIA GeForce RTX4060 GPU. Honor CEO Zhao Ming stated that Honor MagicBook Pro 16 has intelligent search function, which can intelligently search for documents and photos. It also provides application interaction functions such as AI document summary, AI subtitle translation, and AI note taking. Honor stated that it has continuously invested 10 billion yuan in AI research and development expenses and completed over 2000 AI patents.
AI PCs require strong computing power support, which cannot be achieved without the support of chips. Currently, mainstream PC manufacturers generally use Intel Core Ultra processors as the cornerstone of AI computing power. The Core Ultra series of processors is Intel's first consumer grade processor that supports end-to-end deployment of AI models. It is equipped with a professional NPU module developed by Intel specifically for AI processing needs. This module can significantly improve the AI performance of the processor and enable the Core Ultra to independently support high data level AI model operation requirements.
When releasing the Core Ultra series, Wang Zhicong, Vice President of Intel Marketing Group and General Manager of China, said, "AI has gradually entered people's lives, and the era of intelligent, diverse, and open AI has arrived. The concept of AI PC was proposed by Intel CEO Pat Kissinger in September 2023, who believes that in the coming years, 80% of the PC market share will belong to AI PC. Whether or not there is a local deployment of AI models will become the watershed between traditional PCs and AI PCs. With the help of AI, PCs in the new era will have a huge difference in performance scheduling, ease of use, and experience.
In addition to Intel, Nvidia has also launched corresponding GPU products for AI PCs, namely three desktop GPUs with high-performance generative AI capabilities - the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series, including RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 4070 Super. These new products will be the first to be used in PC products such as AI laptops, allowing gamers, designers and other computer users to better use AI on personal computers without relying on remote services accessed via the Internet.
